In March, the Port of Virginia set a new record for TEU volume, handling nearly 280,000 TEUs and processing very smoothly. Also, this March record was more than 60,000 TEUs ahead of March of last year driven by heavy-lift import volume, which increased by 31%, and an increase in empty export containers, which increased by nearly 94%.

According to Stephen A. Edwards, Ceo and CEO of the Virginia Port Authority, said in a press release, «Volumes were solid in all phases of operation and the equipment and terminals are performing well and delivering results for our customers and owners.»

At the end of March, the port added 10 new Kalmar hybrid carriers to its VIG transport fleet in order to boost operational efficiency and leverage the port’s sustainability efforts.
