In March, the Port of Virginia set a new record for TEU volume, handling nearly 280,000 TEUs and processing very smoothly. Also, this March record was more than 60,000 TEUs ahead of March of last year driven by heavy-lift import volume, which increased by 31%, and an increase in empty export containers, which increased by nearly 94%.
